December 29th - Jaws Wide Open

Again chemtrails dominated the sky - the open jaws of a Florida alligator ready to devour any real clouds that dare to show up...

Blue Sky Sunburst

There was not a cloud to be had today - cool crisp, breezy and clear skys! The only way I could come up with a post was to find a synthetic cloudscape to photograph...

December 27th - Fantasy Flight

I would imagine this to be a fitting sky for a Neverending Story Flight through Fantastica on the back of  Falkor the Luck Dragon.

Boney fingers play an altocumulus melody on these giant piano keys in the sky.

December 25th - Werewolf Attack

These cumulonimbus clouds took on the appearance of a pack of Werewolves on the attack - okay I admit it - I went to see New Moon yesterday with Nikki and I guess it had an influence on me...

December 24th - Spontaneous Metaphor

A beautiful windy sky with white cumulus cloud puffs makes for a wonderful Christmas Eve day - and then there was this added bonus of a stork flying overhead just as I snapped this photo - could he be on his way to Bethlehem?

December 23rd - Sunlight through Cirrus

The high level cirrus cloud layer creates a silver filter for the sun, and these lower level clouds make the atmosphere look like something you might see on another planet in a sci-fi movie.

December 22nd - Slinking Tremor

Huge cumulus worm Straight out of "Tremors" slinking across the sunset...

Suspended Cloudimation

These poofs of altocumulus smoke have the effect of being suspended in a hyper-realistic way against this threatening grey sky.

Thursday, December 17, 2009

December 17th - Pretty in Pink

Cirrus clouds form a wispy watercolor wash of pastels in this near-sunset sky.

Wednesday, December 16, 2009

December 16th - Ghost Ship

This cumulus cloud emerging from behind these accessory clouds appeared as a ghost ship would appear out of a thick fog.

Tuesday, December 15, 2009

December 15th - Cloud Collision

This cumulonimbus cloud came barreling across the sky as if in a collision course with these high level meandering clouds!

Monday, December 14, 2009

Who's that walking on my bridge?

Cirrus clouds form this troll peeking out from behind a lower level cloud bridge...

Coke Bottle Cyclone

These cirrus clouds were whipped into a whirlwind today - and they reminded me of the coke bottle cyclones that appeared in every science fair during my kids elementary school years.

Down the Drain

I had a real sense of vertigo as I stood looking at this patch of blue sky - a teaser at the end of a long rainy tunnel...

Friday, December 11, 2009

Sky Breaker

I am always fascinated by the way the sky can look so much like the ocean! These cumulonimbus clouds could be the waves breaking on a stormy beach...

Thursday, December 10, 2009

Reach for the Sky

This cumulonimbus cloudscape formed a giant hand reaching out of the horizon!

Wednesday, December 9, 2009

Joy Flung Sky

Cirrus clouds seem to be flung with joy from this pastel sunset.

Spectacular sky

This cumulonimbus cloud was part of a beautiful breezy day, 81 degrees, perfection! Unusual weather for December in Florida...

Monday, December 7, 2009

Y in the Sky

Cirrus clouds generally refer to atmospheric clouds that are characterized by thin, wisp-like strands. This blanket of cirrus clouds looks like it was "embossed" from above by these two adjoining contrails.

Ghost of Santa's Sleigh

These blue fingers of Medium altitude Altocumulus clouds reaching out of a bright pink sunset could be a ghost version of Santa's sleigh and his reindeer.

A Little Bit of Heaven

The sky finally peeked through the storm clouds today after 3 days of grey rainy weather - almost 4 inches in 72 hours! It did sort of look like God was looking down on me with a blue sky of hope in the background...

Friday, December 4, 2009

Vortex at the End of the World

These cumulonimbus clouds are like a vortex at the end of the world - a giant hole with everything in the universe being sucked into it...

Tie-Dye Sky

These cirrocumulous clouds swirling around the sun make for a great tie-dyed sky. I love the sense of motion even in the still photograph.

Blooming Rose

Orlando is once again in the "red zone" for severe weather - makes for awesome clouds! This one was like a rose blooming in fast forward

Tuesday, December 1, 2009

The 300

We were watching the movie "The 300" yesterday, and when I saw this sky it reminded me of the oceans of soldiers that just kept coming!

Monday, November 30, 2009

Hook, Line and Sinker...

My kids spent the day at Epcot, and they called me up soooo excited that they had taken a cloud photo that would far surpass anything I had seen to date. I was so excited - I couldn't wait to see it!

Boomerang Sky

Boomerangs. Bats. Stealth bombers. Shadow ghost bats, scramble the squadron, maybe they're angels:
a squadron of angels

Reflection on a Spun Gold Sunset

The bottoms of the clouds looked like they were dipped in gold and hung up to dry, reflecting on their own beauty.

Little Toadstools

Another wispy sky sprouting little  toadstools in the grass, or maybe some reflective pools on the beach with breaking waves behind...

Cirrocumulus floccus flinging hair water

These clouds formed a pattern that seemed similar to the water spray off my daughter's hair when she whipped her head back in the pool. Boy does that take me back!

Today is Thanksgiving, and I am thankful for memories like these, and the clouds that evoke them!

Stormy Skies, Striking Contrast

The effect of these bright white alto cumulus clouds  against an ominous grey backdrop of storm clouds was really striking! If you look closely you can see the precipitation in the background.

Floating Pink Pelican on a Beautiful Blue Sea

My friends know that I'm crazy about birds - in fact I see them even when they're not really there! This is a true example of my tendency for aviary hallucinations.

Monday, November 23, 2009

Popeye in Victory!

These cumulus clouds against a cirrostratus background took me back to my cartoon childhood - Popeye raising his arms in victory! Thank heaven for spinach!

Cumulus Cloud Sneaker Races

This weather is quite unusual for November in Florida - there was quite a bit of lightning mixed in with these clouds.

The clouds in the foreground look like a whole bunch of sneakers running in a race...

Saturday, November 21, 2009

Violet Virga!

A gorgeous sunset was accented by the violet virga. Virga is the bottom of the cloud that looks like hanging moss. It is actually precipitation that falls from a cloud but evaporates before reaching the ground.

Can you find the sad face?

These amazing cirrus clouds are fun and action filled, beautifully lit by a low sun, but I couldn't help notice a very sad face directly in the middle of the cloudscape!

Thursday, November 19, 2009

Silver Sliver

This is my favorite moon - I can just see the wee one sitting on the bottom with a nightcap and a candlestick...

Shirley Temple Sky

The cirrus clouds were really high up and formed curl after curl today - they reminded me of Shirley Temple curls...

November 15th - Wispy Ribcage Ghost

All I could see was a wispy ghost of a ribcage - it reminded me of the bones we had to draw in art class.

Saturday, November 14, 2009

November 14th - Heron Lift-Off

The way the shadow was cast downward off this cumulonimbus cloud (at least that's my best guess on cloud type) made this cloudscape look like a giant heron lifting off from the shore. The shadow definitely provided an animated quality to the image.

Friday, November 13, 2009

November 13th - Fun Friday!

Today the only clouds to be had were the man-made kind. This contrail looked like fun in the sky!

Thursday, November 12, 2009

November 12th - Big Brother is Watching

November 11th - Double, double, toil and trouble...

The remnants of Ida were still evident in this afternoon's sky! It was stormy and threatening, and the way the sunlight skimmed across the top of this cloud made it look like a caldron of bubbling light.
