September 7th - Reflection, Cotton Candy, Flying Saucers and Mushrooms

Every way I turned this afternoon there was a different skyscape - so many different kinds of clouds in different combinations were fuel for my imagination.

A cumulus mushroom cap rises out of stratus clouds like from a bug's eye view

Three distinct levels of clouds look like a giant flying saucer hovering over mountains with clouds above.

These beautiful, mid - level clouds seem to be like a cloud reflected in a pool of water, or spun like cotton candy.

September 6th - Loch Ness, Saturn, and Bali Hai

Tonight the colors were subtle and soothing - definitely dreamy.

The Loch Ness Monster raises his head out of a sky ocean!

This cloud formation seems to have rings like Saturn...

I'm thinking this could be Bali Hai

September 5th - Gothic beyond belief!

These skyscapes are almost beyond belief! The color of the sky over the course of this sunset went from a silvery grey to almost copper to pink, and included so many different cloud formations.

The halo effect over this cumulus cloud looks like a china man's hat!

These two cloud formations are almost an inverse of each other - a bump with a swirl surrounding it, and a hole with a swirl above it.

This mammatus cloud formation, a beautiful dusky pink, is almost dispursed. If you look closely you can see the characteristic bumps of this formation on the lower surfce. The white glow under the formation gives a very surrealistic effect.

September 4th - Diamonds and Waves

The Sky seemed so big today as the clouds criss-crossed to form a diamond frame for this puff of cumulus cloud. There is an airplane in the photo that I almost wanted to remove, but I decided to leave it in as a size reference.

These clouds looked so much like breakers at the beach - amazing!

These cirrus clouds almost seemed to be spilling out of the sun

September 3rd - Perfect Morning Sky

These cumulus clouds, dramatically offset by the beautiful blue sky enough to take your breath away!

September 2nd - reflections

Today has been raining all day, and it's not supposed to stop, so I thought I'd take the opportunity to post a few of my "reflection of sky" photos which have a little more scenery than sky alone.

This image fascinated me because the foot bridge covered the horizon exactly giving the impression at first glance that the sky extends to the bottom of the photo. It almost has an Escher effect.

These clouds were wispy with highlightesd edges, and the sun flare at from top center accentuated the brightness of the day. The cloud's shape was an inverse of the pond's shape which added to the interest of the composition.

At the very edge of the pristine-looking pond above, a combination of road run-off and natural muck made a great contrast to the reflection of the sky.

September 1st - Thunder Storm and Lightning Strikes!

Today was one of those days that I didn't really feel motivated to get out the door with my camera. Then I took a look outside at about 5:00, and I couldn't believe what I saw! This lightening filled cloud that almost touched the tops of the houses made day turn to night in about 15 minutes.

It wasn't long before the lightning started to flash and the thunder rumble...

I was so excited when I got these shots of the lightning!
